BAFTAs 2016

There were certainly some very glamorous ladies (and gentlemen) out on the red carpet at the TV BAFTAs this week.

Award ceremonies, for me, are all about the fashion. If I am completely honest I couldn't tell you who won what award as my eye is always drawn to what they are wearing. Who looked great, who got it wrong, what outfit I would like to have been wearing and what would I have dressed the celebrities in to enhance their look.

So what do I look for? I want to see elegance and confidence. I want to see women who are at ease with the way they look and to look as if they have dressed themselves and chosen their own outfit. The gown colour needs to compliment them as opposed to fighting against their own natural colouring. Too many times I will see women with dark hair and eyes wearing a soft, wishy washy colour that drains them and makes them look washed out , and likewise a woman with delicate looks will be wearing a deep colour or black, you then lose the woman and only see the colour.

Here are a few of my favourites from this year.

Helen McCrory

Helen McCrory was in an orange Andrew GN gown. With her flame hair and warm colouring she looked looked happy, comfortable and stylish. She was also fashion forward by working the huge cold shoulder trend.

Fearne Cotton

Fearne Cotton is the new Ambassador of Olia Superblond and she was has said she would love mermaid hair.. well I think she got her wish. Fearne is always true to herself, she isn't interested in fake tan and overdone make-up, she looks beautiful with her porcelain skin and barely there, fresh face make-up. Whilst I have mixed feelings about the style of the gown, the colour is just light enough not to be too overbearing.

Mary Berry

Flying the flag for the more mature woman, and holding tightly to her award, was Mary Berry. Dressed top to toe in blush sequins and looking her elegant self, at 81 Mary is certainly an inspiration.

Lucy Mecklenburgh (Towie)

The reason this beaded lilac gown caught my attention was that it is such a classic and timelise style. I apprecite the fact that Towie's Lucy Mecklenburgh has kept it simple and let the dress talk for itself. It would been tempting to put some sparkle around her neck and on her ears but she has managed to resist the temptation and looks elegant in this gown.

Suranne Jones

Suranne Jones was looking stunning in this black maxi dress with embelished neck. As a new mum she had the style spot on, the detail around her waist will have hidden any baby tummy that may be left and with her dark hair she is one of the dominant colour groups that black looks stunning on.

Caroline Flack, Alexandra Roach, Laura Whitmore - Battle of the Black Jumpsuit

The Black Jumpsuit was a big story of the BAFTAs this year. But who worked it best? For me it has to be Alexandra Roach. Why? Take a look at these 3 images.. Do you see the person wearing the jumpsuit or just the black colour. With Alexandra's black hair the outfit is in harmony with her own colouring. Laura Whitmore with her blonde hair gets lost and all you can see is black. Caroline Flack, unfortunately, is off point in all areas. The jumpsuit is ill fitted and way too long.

Eleanor Tomlinson

I chose this dress because the stunning khaki tones of this beautiful gown work perfectly with Eleanor Tomlinson's auburn hair. She has got the colour spot on to make her look healthy and glowing.

Maisie Williams

Maisie Williams of Game of Thrones looks cute as a button in this dress. The reason I love it so much is that it is so age appropriate. Maisie is true to her age and isn't making herself look older and out of place in a long elegant floating gown.

I love working with my clients who are attending a special ocassion. Be it a dinner dance, wedding, sporting event or any number of other events. It is important that they know the best colours for them to wear, the right style and fit for their body shape and that they are wearing something that fits with their style personality. It really is a fabulous feeling to turn up at a special occasion knowing tht you look the way you want to.
